Kicking off the Sandwich Fair Fiddle Contest on Wednesday, September 8th at 5:30pm on the AgLand Stage, will be dynamic bluegrass band, Ashley Lewis and Ashton Gap. Ashley enthralls audiences with her fiery, driving mandolin, fiddle and impassioned vocals. Recognized by the Illinois Arts Council as an accomplished musician who is preserving the heritage and art of bluegrass mandolin, Ashley’s music is commented upon by Female Vocalist of the Year, Dale Ann Bradley, “I sat there with a smile on my face the whole time. You are a natural! You have the beauty in your heart and it comes through in your music.”

Ashley’s band, Ashton Gap, gives an energetic and riveting performance with an innovative approach to all facets of bluegrass music, while providing fresh definition to the traditional tunes. The combined effects of pure vocals, smooth harmonies and acoustic instruments, consisting of mandolin, fiddle, guitar, upright bass, and banjo, blend to create that inspiring bluegrass sound.

Redhorse

Thursday, September 9th

7-10pm

Redhorse was formed about five years ago by singer-song writer Steve Pescitelli from Sandwich, IL. They play a wide variety of styles including rock, blues, country and jazz. Their original material draws from varied influences including Bob Dylan, Beatles, Eric Clapton, Steve Earie, Allman Brothers, Van Morrison, and many more. The band includes Leigh Kossman from Hinckley who adds vocal depth and broadens the repertoire to include many great female artists as well as jazz standards. Bill Fritsch, a Sandwich native, brings diverse rhythmic experience including Celtic influences. Audrey (Steve’s daughter) is a talented musician who has recently debuted as a singer. Alan Deaton, from Little Rock, IL, does everything else with his own unique style – don’t leave anything lying around – he’ll pick it up and play it. Steve adds guitar, vocals and mandolin. Redhorse’s first CD “Songs of the Chicago Region” was released in 2009 and features songs about local ecology. Sales of the CD benefit local environmental groups. Redhorse plays a wide variety of venues from local bars to the Sandwich Opera House, festivals, and benefit concerts.

LNB, formed from many years of combined experience, was established in 2003. Immediately they were welcomed with open arms in every place they stepped into. LNB has pretty much saturated the Illinois market and are looking to expand their listening audience to the National Market.

A mix of soulful vocals, heartfelt guitar, and irresistible groove. The Edge blend an array of music to create their unique sound.

Influenced by Texas and Chicago, contemporary and traditional country rock and rock-n-roll of all types the group creates a passionate performance.

The band’s thick driving groove is created by Tim Kerestes’ powerful drumming and Rick Powell’s expressive bass. The songs are interpreted by the clean powerful vocals of Colleen Kerestes and Steve Westerman. You will feel the music through Doug Ragan’s emotion-filled slide/lead guitar playing.

Check out – The Edge – for a modern, original, and versatile interpretation of contemporary American music.

From the streets of Dublin, to the Mississippi delta…from London to Chicago, comes a group whose influences combine the best of rock and blues. WOODSUGAR brings the concert halls mixed with the pubs…journeyman musicianship joined with the experience of a thousand nights on stage.

Formed in 2008, WOODSUGAR is led by Barbara St. John, the Irish powerhouse on vocals. Barbara sings everything from a whisper to a scream and all points in-between. Her showmanship and sense of humer defines the WOODSUGAR sound and attitude.

Providing the bottom end, on bass guitar and vocals we have Bill Clemens. Veteran of many, many nights on stage, Bill has thundered from local pubs to the House of Blues and back.

On lead guitar and vocals Michael Colle anchors the backline with influences from Liverpool to Chicago to New Orleans and everywhere else along the way.

On drums and vocals is John Hill. Keeping your hands clappin’ and your toes tappin’, John has been pounding stages for many years throughout the Midwest.

Above all, WOODSUGAR wants the audience to enjoy themselves and has assembled a song selection from new to old. Mixing from Janis to Alanis to Ethredge to Aguilera and beyond—from Beatles to blues, you’ve got to see WOODSUGAR!

Patchouli

Sunday, September 12th

1-4pm

Bruce Hecksel’s primary instrument is acoustic guitar. In addition to intense study in many styles from fingerstlye, flamenco, classical, jazz, flat picking, and folk, he studied concert piano, choral compositions and plays bass guitar and percussion on stage. But Bruce started his guitar adventure in a punk rock band named Be Safe Be Seen. At a Canadian music festival in 1991 his electric guitar and amp were stolen and he was left with only his acoustic guitar, which he took as a sign and never played an electric guitar again.

As lyricist and lead vocalist of Patchouli, Julie’s background is in words. She began reciting poetry when she was seven. She walked around with her steno notepad and recorded all her observations of her young life. Dabbling in violin, drums, and trombone throughout school she worked many of her poems into acapella pieces that she and friends would perform.

When she and Bruce met they put the poetry to music and Patchouli began. Julie now plays multiple instruments on and off stage 6& 12 string guitars, upright bass marimbas, flutes and hand drums.
